What is La Vichy? La Vichy is the French alliance that joined the Nazi party during the Second World War who was lead by Phillipe Petain, the later on Prime Minister of France. La Vichy was named after the town Vichy.
The vichy formed when their leader(phillipe petain) sign and armistice with the nazi leader, Adolfe hitler. The armistice stated that Fance would be occuppied and managed by the nazis with the sub-division the vichy, specificly to combat rebel groups, such as the maquis. Not a generally large group they would be formed in smaller divisions of the vichy roamed the north-western parts of France like Normandy and Paris. How efficient they were at rounding up "The Jews" was very scary, their tactics frightening, yet effiecent, very very effiecent. Yet combated by the resourceful Maquis they had their hand full.
The Vichy Lead by the traitor petain (later tried and convicted of high treason and put to death) was a large part of the rounding up of the jews and communist, their group was very anti-communist, oders straight from the fuher himself, he was incharge of the deaths of thousands jews, blacks, communists, and homosexuals. He himself once the ghrand leader of the great country of France, a murderer of his own people, a traitor and killer. Concentration camps were created all over occupied europe, more like death camps and run by the vichy.
The Vichy was always a strong unit partied with Nazis and recruiting any they could. For the longest time it was a back and forth battle against the Free French Forces (FFF) but come D-Day they were pushed back into retreating and eventually disbanded. The most well known of soldiers in la Vichy such as Jean Leguay, Klaus Barbie and Maurice Papon were prosecuted in the 1980 their sentences changing on how close they were to the top of la Vichy. There are rumors still to this day that some members of la Vichy have passed down some sort of legacy and there's a small organization still to live to this day.
